In het spel Tanuki nemen spelers de rol aan van tanuki, mythische Japanse wezens bekend om hun kattenkwaad en vermogen om te transformeren. Het doel van het spel is om zoveel mogelijk punten te verzamelen door sets van vruchten en voorwerpen te stelen van het midden van de tafel. Spelers gooien dobbelstenen en gebruiken de resultaten om kaarten van de centrale display te nemen en hun eigen verzameling te bouwen. Elke kaart heeft een puntenwaarde en sommige kaarten activeren speciale acties wanneer ze worden genomen. Het slim gebruiken van deze acties, zoals het ruilen van kaarten met tegenstanders of het opnieuw gooien van dobbelstenen, kan de sleutel zijn tot het winnen van het spel. Tanuki is eenvoudig te leren maar biedt genoeg strategische diepte, wat het een uitstekende keuze maakt voor zowel jongere spelers als volwassenen.
