A beautiful crystalline blue cylinder vase by master ceramicist Wendelin Stahl.  This is one in a series of vases, all in different shapes, with a matt metallic anthracite glaze on top of a deep cobalt blue crystalline glaze.  It is signed by the artist and numbered 901/16 (the shape designation and its height in centimeters)

WENDELIN STAHL (1922-2000) was born into a family of potters in Höhr-Grenzhausen, which, since the 16th century, has been the center of the ceramics industry in Germany due to its proximity to the largest clay deposit in all of Europe. Between 1938 and 1939, Stahl completed an apprenticeship in the ceramics workshop of Kunow & Drossé in Höhr-Grenzhausen.  There he met his future business partner and wife, Else Harney (1919–1984), who was completing her own apprenticeship.  Unfortunately, the war intruded, and Wendelin was called into service from 1940 to 1945. However, upon his return, he continued his training from 1945 to 1951, this time in the company of his brother and master potter, Rudi Stahl (1918-1987), in Höhr-Grenzhausen.

Elsa was an accomplished artisan in her own right, and from 1951 to 1952, she continued her training as a pupil of Albrecht Klauer-Simonie and Wendelin’s older brother, Rudi.  She passed her master craftsman examination in 1955, the same year that Wendelin passed the journeyman's examination.  Elsa was the daughter of Hans Harney (1877-1954), a former consul and director of the Deutsche Bank in Dusseldorf.  In 1917, he bought the ruins of the medieval Coraidelstein Castle in Klotten and had two houses built on the property.  Else and Wendelin began living there and set up a joint workshop in the old manor house in 1952, where they started producing artistically conceived ceramics in small series.  All objects rotated on the potter’s wheel come from Wendelin Stahl.  The decors - initially stylized vegetables and later abstracts - were by Else Harney.  The objects were often reworked by pressing them into molds or carving sgraffito designs into them while in a leather-hard state. The decorations were applied with colored engobes.  The majority of the objects, which are not consistently marked, have a carved model number, often accompanied by the size in centimeters, separated by a slash.  Everything was done in-house.  The workshop's collections were regularly presented at the spring and autumn trade fairs in Frankfurt and sold by regional representatives through upscale specialist retailers.  Additionally, it is worth noting that the workshop produced several model series of lamp bases, some featuring crystal glazes, for the Krösselbach Fayence company in the early 1960s. However, it discontinued series production altogether by the middle of the decade, despite continued demand.

At the beginning of the 1960s, Stahl turned to developing forms and glazes for his ceramic art. The focus was on crystal and reduction glazes, examples of which were showcased at numerous exhibitions both at home and abroad, and can be found in numerous public and private collections.

After adding engobes or incised decorations to his objects in the 1950s and having created classic, beautiful crystal glazes from the 1960s, he devoted himself to the manufacture of artistically perfect celadon from the 1970s.  Stahl's shapes and glazes are characterized by connoisseurs of contemporary ceramics primarily through a special play of colors in the fired celadons, featuring copper red, manganese violet, or titanium blue. His vessels, which were actually only carriers for his unequaled beautiful glazes, always showed apparent linearity and perfect clarity. In further attempts, he succeeded in improving the glazing technique to such an extent that it finally culminated in ‘Tenmoku’, which is a type of glaze that originated in China and is often characterized by a deep warm brown, into which delicate green tones, or sometimes light brown or subtle blue tones, can flow.

During their time together, Wendelin Stahl and Else Harney both made significant contributions to the development of ceramics as an art form in Europe. Students from all over the world came to learn the craft of pottery from them. After Else died in 1984, Wendelin Stahl ran the workshop there, together with his former student Ayca Riedinger, until his death in 2000.

I should check the size
Size: 1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This wasn’t the lotion I expected but I should Probably check the sizes before ordering. This is a mini bottle. Not as moisturizing as I’d hoped for. Very light water consistency. Not my favorite lotion.

Hand lotion
Size: 1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This lotion does what is said it will. I used it and my hands are extremely dry from washing them all day while at work. Once I’m home I use it and my hand feels silky smooth without the greasy feel afterwards.

SMALL! Don’t waste your money!
Size: 1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I should’ve looked closer when purchasing because this is a super small sample size that isn’t even as big as the travel size and yet I paid as much for it as a regular size. What a joke! The product itself is great but I would’ve never ordered this size if I’d known it was going to be sooooo small. What a ripoff!

Obsessed. Soothing, effective, fragrance-free, incredibly healing
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I’ve been loving this so much I bought a second bottle after a few days of using it. It has all the skin soothing benefits of the tolerance lotion cleanser, but it’s also a really great cleanser. It’s almost not noticeable how good it is at cleansing because your skin doesn’t feel stripped after, but it takes things off really quickly. I was worried because it doesn’t foam a lot and it feels so nurturing — much like the tolerance lotion cleanser (which I use as a second cleanse when my skin needs a few days to recover from something like a derm office treatment) — but when I wash again with my favorite HG cleanser nothing extra comes off, and I tested it twice on waterproof eyeliner that I’d swiped on my forearm for an hour or so, the eyeliner dissolved and wiped off with two or three gentle swipes. It has a very emollient texture, so when you rub it against your skin it slips so easily you don’t realize it’s dissolving and taking things away because there is no friction. So it’s great at taking off makeup, it’s AMAZING at cleaning makeup brushes, and IT DOES NOT BURN MY EYES AT ALL. Also, it is FRAGRANCE-FREE… before I bought it I read a review complaining about smelling a citrus fragrance, that person either has some sort of brain tumor or something spilled on their bottle when it was in a warehouse because this is definitely a fragrance-free product. Prior to trying this, I had tried another cleanser that gave me weird acne hives all over my chest (never happened to me before) and I was struggling to heal the acne and the irritation. I noticed an immediate difference when I started using the tolerance cleanser on it; the fresh redness went away, the acne started healing, and the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation has been healing fast. So I’ve been using this on my body as well and it’s soothing and moisturizing in all the places where other things have been drying. I have mild rosacea and I hadn’t realized how irritated my skin was from the last thing I’d tried until after 5 days or so of using this my skin tone looked much more even and the stubborn PIH I have from a two-zit hormonal breakout a month ago finally looked dramatically lighter (as recently as the week before, I’d needed to cover them with high-coverage concealer). Because this doesn’t foam much, some people might not realize how well it’s cleaning… I encourage you to judge it based on how your skin looks and feels. Since it is very emollient though, I do think it’s important to use it with a face wash scrubber or washcloth just to ensure you’re getting some mild mechanical exfoliation and clearing away skin cells that could be trapping stuff in your pores. For this reason, I do wash my face with this twice so the first wash can get off makeup/debris/oil and then the second wash can really penetrate and clean my skin.

No Scent and Gentle
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I broke out in a case of Perioral Dermatitis recently and bought this product to help before I could see my doctor. Avene Tolerance facial cleanser has no scent and is very gentle on my skin. It didn’t burn when washing with this product, and even helped to slough off the dead skin around my lips. My face feels clean, not dry. I am still going to see my doc to get an RX for the inflammation, but I do believe this product helped to alleviate the dryness and tightness of my skin and lips. I’ve used other Avene products and I’m very happy with them. Even though these products are more expensive, to me they are well worth the money because they are much more gentle on the skin than any other products I’ve used. I will buy this product again just because of the fact that it’s so gentle. PS: at the time of purchase for this product, I also bought Avene’s Tolerance Control Skin Recovery Cream (you don’t need to use a lot of this one on your entire face), and Avene’s Cicalfate for lips. Between these 3 products, my lips and skin feel a lot better (however, I will still see my doctor because I have Crohn’s Disease and Perioral Dermatitis is considered an extra-intestinal side effect of Crohn’s).
