This watch is inspired by an early case design specified by the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) in 1973. While watches from that era could not match today's performance standards—particularly in water resistance and features like sapphire crystal—this model retains many of the original design influences while incorporating modern upgrades.

For several years, customers have requested this model, so we decided to produce a limited run for private clients and select dealers. While the original 1973 watches used tritium, this version features Luminova for improved luminosity. However, the encircled "T" marking has been retained for historical accuracy.

This case design is particularly notable as the direct predecessor to our current range, which dates back to the late 1970s.

Historical Background

This model was originally discontinued nearly 20 years ago. However, an unexpected discovery reignited interest. A few years ago, an MWC distributor in Australia uncovered 500 brand-new watches in their stockroom. These watches, manufactured between 1999 and 2001, had been shipped in batches of 500 over three years. The final batch was overlooked until a stock check was conducted upon the retirement of the owner’s father.

MWC repurchased these watches, which quickly sold out. Due to their popularity, we decided to recreate the design, incorporating modern advancements in watch manufacturing.

Upgraded Features:

  • Movement: The original quartz movement was replaced with an automatic NH35A movement featuring a 41-hour power reserve, hand-winding, and hacking for precise synchronization.
  • Crystal: The previous hardened mineral glass was upgraded to sapphire crystal, known for its superior scratch and shatter resistance.
  • Bezel: The original 60 or 90-click bezel has been upgraded to a 120-click unidirectional bezel for improved functionality.

Design and Specification

The design of this MWC model follows the British MOD specification (refer to the final two images). Unlike other models in this range, which are based on designs from the early 1990s to 2004, this is the closest to the original 1973 pattern case.

Why Sapphire Crystal?

Many customers ask about the advantages of sapphire crystal over standard mineral glass.

Scratch & Shatter Resistance: Synthetic sapphire is extremely durable, making it ideal for military personnel, police officers, and outdoor enthusiasts. These groups account for over 70% of our customers.
Impact Durability: Over 90% of cracked crystals reported by customers involve mineral glass, even when hardened.
Anti-Reflective Coating: Our sapphire crystals undergo heat treatment to remove internal stress, followed by the application of two layers of anti-reflective coating for optimal visibility.
Premium Quality: Sapphire crystals are standard in higher-end watches and even used in the latest iPhone screens due to their superior strength.

While sapphire adds to the cost, its benefits in durability and longevity make it the best choice for serious users.

Has fit perfectly into my morning espresso
    Color: Black&Silver
This seems to me to be an excellent small kitchen scale. I am new to the complexities of espresso making and have begun using this scale every morning to measure my dose and output. It is working just fine. Easy to operate, keep clean and store. I did not give it 5 stars because I have limited comparisons but I don’t expect and will not bother looking for anything better.

Perfectly fits what I needed for my espresso habit!
    Color: Black&Silver
This Maestri House mini coffee scale is a great little tool for espresso and pour-over. The size is compact enough to fit under a portafilter or cup, and the 0.1g accuracy makes dialing in coffee much easier. I like the built-in timer, rechargeable USB-C battery, and clean black-and-silver look. It feels precise, practical, and easy to keep near the espresso machine. Great value for anyone who wants more consistent coffee.

    Maestro House Mini Coffee Scale
I have begun to drink tea, pu’erh tea to be specific. I have several varieties and I have had a problem with getting consistent results. The varieties can be very different in size depending on when the leaves are harvested (leaves harvested in spring are much smaller). So the easiest way to get consistent results is by weight. This scale is very easy to use with a ceramic tea scoop, set the tea scoop on the scale, zero it out and add tea leaves. This has made my results much better, without the wild swings in strength I had been getting before trying to eyeball even measures. This scale gives me accurate measurements to one tenth of a gram.

Mostly great, except one little annoyance
    Color: Black&Silver, Color: Black&Silver
Pros- lightweight, small, very accurate, easy to clean, timer included. Cons- I use this to brew espresso on my Breville Touch and to get an accurate reading, you have to place something flat (structured) under the scale. Otherwise the reading just jumps all over the place. I know lot of espresso machines have the same base, so this might be an issue for some! This is my reason for 4/5 stars. It’s an easy fix, it’s just kind of annoying. Value for the price seems to be on point. It’s easy to clean. It has a timer as well as scale (nice for espresso). Buttons work the first time you push them. That’s it that’s all

TLDR: Buy it. It works well, it has impressive and useful features, it looks great, it’s thin/low-profile, and it’s a great price. Detailed review: I’m very happy with this scale, and it has certainly upped my espresso game by leaps and bounds. I’m able to weigh my beans very precisely down to a tenth of a gram (roughly the weight of a single bean), so my dosing is on point. Also, it fits beneath the portafilter with room to spare for my cup, so I can weigh my shots and accurately measure my input/output ratio. And automatic mode is magic! When the espresso hits the cup, the timer starts running, so I can measure flow rate along with everything else! Overall, super easy to use and very necessary for the at-home barista. One caveat: It acted weird on the 2nd or 3rd day, and I thought I was going to have to return it. The weight would slowly creep up even though I wasn’t adding any coffee. I dusted it off, made sure it was dry, set it on a more stable surface… I still don’t know what the matter was, but it stopped freaking out and it hasn’t really given me any trouble since. Also, I should mention that the automatic function doesn’t always work 100% perfectly; it works, and usually works quite well, but depending on the flow rate, you might get some drops dribbling into the cup and the timer not detect it right away. (I think the timer must be activated according to some sort of algorithm that looks for a certain increase in a certain amount of time, so a slower initial drip rate might not trigger it at first.) Also weirdly, it seems like about half of the time when the weight stops increasing (i.e., espresso stops flowing) , the timer pauses (as I think it’s supposed to do), but other times, the timer keeps running until you manually stop it. I don’t know… It’s a weird glitch, I guess, but it doesn’t really make any difference. The weight is accurate, and that’s the primary thing to keep an eye on. So, is it perfect? No, I guess not. But, it works extremely well and functions perfectly for my purposes. In fact, it’s a lot nicer and fancier than I expected – plus, it’s more affordable and more streamlined than its obvious rival the Acacia.
