FAQ GCSE Computer Science:
What additional equipment do I need to bring to the exams?
All answers must be written in black pen. For GCSE Computer Science you may use a HB pencil for graphs and diagrams. Calculators are not allowed for GCSE Computer Science.
Do I need to learn more than one programming language?
No, you should choose one of the programming languages specified in the exam board’s specifications and focus on this. If you are studying for AQA GCSE Computer Science you must specify the language when you book your exams by selecting the appropriate option. Failure to select the correct option will result in you getting an exam paper which has questions focused on a different programming language.
Do I need experience of writing programmes?
The exam boards require that all candidates have practical programming experience before they take the exams. We will require you to provide confirmation that you have completed practical programming tasks independently.
Will I need to write programmes in the exam?
There is no practical programming required in the exam, however you will be required to write short programmes using either code or pseudocode as directed in the questions.
Am I allowed a calculator for the exams?
No, calculators are not permitted for any GCSE Computer Science exams.
