Released at a time when Maisons like Audemars Piguet were beginning to bend the rules of gendered design, this piece feels both of its moment and far ahead of it. The quartz movement guarantees precision, but it’s the aesthetics that leave a lasting impression: jewel-box poetry housed in Genta’s famously angular form.
The Royal Oak is a chapter heading in the design history of the 20th century. In 1972, Gérald Genta sketched the Royal Oak overnight, an octagonal case with exposed screws and an integrated bracelet inspired by diving helmets. Measuring just 20mm, this reference translates Gérald Genta’s 1972 vision into a timepiece of rare delicacy. Warm 18k yellow gold accents and a dial of mother-of-pearl, so luminous it seems to breathe, lend it a shifting, almost cinematic quality. Sport and ornament in conversation.
For collectors, it is a rare find, compact in scale but expansive in meaning. It captures the precise moment when watchmaking crossed the threshold from tradition into something more expressive, more sculptural, more luxurious. And behind it all, the lineage of Audemars Piguet—the Maison founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, where watchmaking still feels elemental, shaped by weather, woodsmoke, and generations of savoir-faire.
All of our pre-owned watches are guaranteed to be genuine and authentic. Stephanie Windsor also guarantees the proper functioning of this watch mechanism for ONE year from the date of purchase.
