De eerste werkelijk totale oorlog, 'de oorlog om een eind aan alle oorlogen te maken' zoals de Eerste Wereldoorlog bekend werd, schokte de wereld door zijn omvang en wreedheid. Aan beide zijden trokken in augustus 1914 mannen ten oorlog die dachten met Kerstmis weer thuis te zijn. Maar aan het westelijk front en het Italiaanse front ontstond een patstelling: een grimmige loopgravenoorlog. Miljoenen leefden en sneuvelden in afschuwelijke omstandigheden, werden neergemaaid door mitrailleurvuur of opgeblazen door artilleriegranaten. Voor de eerste keer maakte de vooruitgang op agrarisch en industrieel gebied het mogelijk massalegers uit te rusten en jarenlang in het veld te bevoorraden. Deze nieuwe, geïndustrialiseerde oorlog ging niet meer tussen het ene leger en het andere leger, maar tussen het ene land en het andere land.

In De Eerste Wereldoorlog wordt een conflict beschreven dat begon met een maritieme bewapeningswedloop begin jaren 1900 en in 1918 eindigde met de dood van bijna 23 miljoen soldaten van veel nationaliteiten als het directe gevolg van militaire activiteiten. De oorlog leidde tot grote maatschappelijke, politieke en militaire veranderingen.

De meer dan 250 zwartwitfoto's, veel ervan nooit eerder gepubliceerd, kaarten en tekeningen doen de slagen en veldtochten herleven. For the Back Pocket Carrier out there....

I think this wallet is awesome! I've been carrying for about a week and it is working out great. I usually don't carry cash but for the last week, I've actually had a little cash on me. In all honesty, I do take it out of my pocket and put it in my console when I drive, but that's it. Everywhere else I go, and sit, it stays in my back pocket. I know it's only been a week, but I'm glad to see that I haven't crushed it, or deformed it, or anything. Ultimately, it's been great and I'm glad I got this one.
