De Wijn

Smaakimpressie
prachtige purperrode kleur met paarse accenten. Expressieve neus met aroma’s van verse, frisse (bos)vruchten, groene kruiden en bloemen, goed verpakt in balsamieke accenten, cacao en toffee van de houtopvoeding. Vlezig, vol en rond op de tong, fris en elegant, evenwichtig, harmonieus, met een lange finale waarin het fruit en de balsamieke tonen elkaar mooi aanvullen.

Vinificatie
De met de hand geplukte druiven worden onmiddellijk in kleine kisten met een maximale inhoud van 14 kg naar de bodega vervoerd. Na een eerste visuele controle bij binnenkomst worden de druiven nog eens op een sorteertafel handmatig gecontroleerd. De trossen worden ontsteeld, de druiven en het door het eigen gewicht van de druiven losgekomen sap wordt naar de gistingtanks geleid. In deze RVS tanks met temperatuurcontrole vindt de alcoholische gisting plaats. Na deze gisting worden de druiven zeer zorgvuldig vertikaal geperst. De malolactische gisting vindt deels in RVS tanks plaats en deels in eikenhouten vaten. Voor de Pittacum barrica volgt een opvoeding van 6 maanden in ‘barricas’ (kleine houten vaten). Na de opvoeding wordt de wijn geklaard met eiwit en zacht gefilterd. De gebottelde wijn rust nog enige tijd in de ‘dormideras’ (lett.: slaapruimte).

Culinair Advies
Lokaal aanbevolen als begeleider van stoofvleesschotels met witte bonen en tomatensaus! Mag gerust ook bij geroosterd of gebraden vlees van het rund of het lam, en zelfs voor wild (haas in het bijzonder). Verrukkelijk bij ambachtelijke, gerijpte Spaanse kazen als ibérico of zamorano.

Wijnhuis

Deze producent behoort toe aan de Terras-Gaudagroep en produceert op eigentijdse wijze karaktervolle wijnen van de lokale druif mencía. De 40 hectare wijngaarden liggen bij Arganza, een plaats met een lange wijntraditie. Bodegas Pittacum heeft 200 verschillende percelen met oude wijnstokken waarvan de druiven apart worden gevinifieerd en pas later samengevoegd. Het zijn stijlvolle, eigentijdse wijnen, die voortbouwen op de traditionele waarden van de regio Bierzo. De Barrica krijgt opvoeding op Frans en Amerikaans eikenhout en komt pas na een paar jaar op de markt.

Regio

Bierzo is een regio in het noordwesten van Spanje, in de grotere regio Castilla y León gelegen. Het is een klassiek wijngebied, maar krijgt de laatste tijd meer aandacht, omdat er steeds meer kwaliteitswijn wordt geproduceerd.

De regio Bierzo ligt in het deel van Spanje dat net over Portugal heen hangt. Iets noordelijker ligt een kleine bergpartij, die de regio enigszins beschermt tegen de natte en koude invloeden van de Atlantische oceaan.

Druivenras

Mencía
Mencía is een van de druiven die de laatste decennia weer enorm in de spotlights staan. Hoewel de druif wereldwijd niet veel is aangeplant, is mencía de verpersoonlijking van de Spaanse terugkeer naar eigen roots: autochtone druiven, waarvan interessante en streekeigen wijnen gemaakt worden.

A few caveats to those who are generally interested in creativity studies: Csikszentmihalyi's analysis and discussion of creativity does not directly relate to those who are personally creative. People who enjoy engaging in creative activities are not demoted, in his terms, but are simply not a part of the study. It is unfortunate that his language makes it seem this way; he distinguishes between the two by saying that Creativity has the power to shape a domain or the world, while creativity applies to those who enjoy coming up with new recipes, who are engaged in research that may not change a domain, but may "tweak" it, etc. What he is trying to discover are the underlying principles and traits of creativity in those whose work has made a significant change. Think Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mark Strand: people who are either widely known for their influence, or who have been influential within their area or domain. This book provides an interesting view into the minds and work habits of Creative individuals, and concludes by offering general advice to those who wish to make their own lives and work more creative. It is a useful book, but one which requires a great deal of supplemental reading, in order to truly engage in creativity studies.

4.5 Stars - Highly Recommend- Will Buy Copies for My Kids

I was torn between 4 and 5 stars, because this book is very good. The pay no taxes part of the book is a solid 5 stars. However, I was much more interested in the buy, borrow, die strategies. Those strategies are good, including a fairly thorough explanation and use cases. But there wasn't enough explanation of the long-term handling of the debt and the possibility of margin calls. If you leverage 50% of your portfolio and the market goes down 30 to 35%, which does happen, you can quickly get in trouble. Many of the current ETFs that pay high dividends haven't been around long enough to go through a 30 - 35% market drop, so it's difficult to accurately predict how they'll perform. Of course, if you don't overleverage, the chances of a margin call are much lower, even if the market tanks. Also, the book says to invest in assets you can borrow against, including stock, ETFs, real estate, crypto, and gold/silver. On the surface, this is a good strategy. While you can borrow against these things, borrowing against precious metals carries a higher interest rate (though I'm sure if you have tens of millions, you can find better rates, but most people don't have that much), and borrowing against crypto is dangerous. Hopefully crypto will become better protected, but right now, the company lending you money against your crypto can just run off with your crypto. It has happened. The reason I rated the book 4 stars instead of 5 is solely because I'm more interested in buy, borrow, die than the tax coverage. If I bought the book for the tax avoidance, it would be a 5. Overall, I highly recommend the book. I'm going to buy a copy for both of my children, who are in their 20's.
