This remarkable antique ring bears the legacy of a deeply personal history. The shank, once an early 19th century enameled memorial ring, has gracefully aged over time, with the enamel and inscription worn smooth by the passage of time. At its heart is a stunning antique diamond component, crafted in the form of a delicate flower evoking the charm of a giardinetti ring. The center is a rare Peruzzi cut diamond, weighing 1.25 carats, encircled by six tulip-shaped petals, each set with an old-cut diamond. Created in antiquity, this ring merges a sentimental ring with an heirloom diamond, symbolizing remembrance and devotion. This treasured piece was designed to be passed through generations, holding stories of love, loss and memory.

The delicate enamel and inscriptions on mourning rings often wore away over time, diminishing their original symbolism. Rather than discarding them, families would rework these rings. Inherited jewelry was treasured as a tangible link to the family’s past. By combining sentimental pieces, new jewelry could be created that honored the memory of the giver while better suiting the current wearer's style.

The Peruzzi cut diamond is renowned for its historical significance and rarity. Popular during the Baroque period and into the early 18th century, these diamonds were highly valued for their brilliance and became symbols of status in European courts. As diamond cutting techniques advanced, the production of Peruzzi cut diamonds diminished, making surviving examples exceptionally rare today. Characterized by a cushion-like shape, with a higher crown and smaller table than modern cuts, owning one of these gems offers not only aesthetic appeal but also a tangible link to the artistry and craftsmanship of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Diamonds: Center Peruzzi cut diamond estimated to be 1.25 carats by formula, VS1- VS2 range in clarity with J-K range in color. Six accent diamonds estimated to be .30 total carats with VS2 clarity and I color.

Thoughtful and honest
Format: Kindle
I am so glad I read this! I've heard the term "cultural appropriation" many more times than I can count, but I hadn't thought about it in the context of religion. Bucar's writing is so engaging, and the book is a great blend of narrative non-fiction and theory. I couldn't put it down! Highly recommend.

An important and interesting read; well written and researched
Format: Hardcover
The author uses personal experiences to illustrate and enliven the text. Ms. Bucar challenges us to look at our own reactions, thoughts and practices. I would recommend this book for discussion at my book club.

Not what I was hoping for
Format: Paperback
I've been interested in the topic of religious appropriation ever since I saw my non-Tibetan neighbor hang Tibetan prayer flags on his front porch. And when I lived in Japan, I saw that non-Christian Japanese appropriated all of the trappings of Western Christian wedding ceremonies. So I had high hopes for this book. But it reads like a very looooong, and also very academic sermon on the evils of capitalism, western hegemony, and other such terms. There is not an ounce of humor in any of this book.
