In winter or at water temperatures below 12 degrees (54°F), Koi rarely appear at the water surface and search for food at the bottom. Therefore, in winter, it is recommended to always feed sinking food. The metabolism of the cold-blooded Koi slows down considerably at low temperatures. Therefore, in this period the animals need a food that is characterized by high bioavailability.
Koi Professional Winter is the appropriate staple food, developed especially for the activity level, foraging behavior, and nutritional requirements of Koi at low temperatures. The essential, highly unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids [Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)] included in the food provide energy and protect cell membranes. Vitamins and mannan oligosaccharides strengthen the immune system. Due to the reduced carbohydrate amount, the food is particularly easy to digest at low temperatures. It sinks quickly to the bottom and keeps its shape, thus the fish, that move slowly when it is cold, have enough time to eat without the risk that the granules will disintegrate or dissolve. For these reasons, the food is ideal for feeding at water temperatures below 12°C (54°F).
