The Gamber-Johnson Vehicle Mount for Tablet, Keyboard, Cradle is a purpose-built in-vehicle workstation designed to keep your mobile computing devices secure, accessible, and ready for action at a moment’s notice. This integrated system pairs a rugged keyboard cradle with a reliable tablet mount, delivering a compact, user-friendly interface that reduces driver fatigue and accelerates workflows in fleet, field service, and security operations. Built for daily use in cars, trucks, or vans, this mount combines ergonomic design with heavy-duty construction, ensuring reliable performance even in rough road conditions. By bringing keyboard, tablet, and cradle into a single, cohesive unit, it minimizes clutter and maximizes efficiency—allowing drivers, technicians, and dispatchers to enter data, access applications, and communicate in real time without reaching for multiple devices. The fold-up keyboard feature creates a streamlined dock that stays close at hand, while the synchronized swivel and telescope movements keep the display and keyboard aligned for quick, accurate input from a variety of seating positions. This makes it an ideal solution for on‑the‑move data entry, digital dispatch, inventory management, and hands‑free navigation when everything you need is in one secure place.

  • Seamless keyboard integration: folds up when not in use to create a compact dock that keeps the keyboard tucked away while preserving quick access to the tablet and docked display. This fold-up mechanism protects the keys and the hinge from dust and moisture, reduces the footprint of the whole setup when parked, and ensures the workspace remains tidy and professional. The result is a neat, organized cockpit that is easy to clean, with the keyboard ready in seconds for rapid data entry, note taking, or message composition during a route, service call, or fleet update.
  • Coordinated movement: the device features swivel and/or telescope functionality that allows the keyboard and display to move as a single unit. This synchronized adjustment ensures comfortable viewing angles for drivers of varying heights and seating positions, minimizing glare, neck strain, and awkward postures. Whether you are entering routes, reviewing lookup data, or drafting a service report, the integrated motion path keeps everything in view and within reach, reducing the need to shift attention between devices or lean forward uncomfortably.
  • Rugged, vehicle-ready design: built to withstand the rigors of daily road use, including vibrations, temperature fluctuations, and humidity found in mobile environments. The mount’s chassis and cradle are engineered to resist flex, wear, and impact, while the mounting hardware offers secure clamping to dashboards, consoles, or rails. This durability translates into increased uptime, lower maintenance costs, and a safer, more reliable mobile workstation for drivers who rely on real-time data, navigation, and inventory management on every trip. Engineered to stand up to long shifts and tough conditions, it remains dependable across seasons and varying vehicle interiors.
  • Secure tablet cradle: the tablet sits firmly in a purpose-built cradle that locks in place yet allows easy docking and undocking. The cradle provides robust grip, protected edges, and access to essential ports, so you can charge while in transit and keep devices shielded from incidental bumps. For fleet managers, this means fewer lost devices, less downtime, and a consistent user experience across vehicles and shifts. The secure hold reduces the risk of device damage during abrupt stops or sharp turns and ensures reliable power connections while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Versatile mounting options: designed for flexible installation in a range of vehicle interiors, including dash, console, or under-seat configurations. Quick-release compatibility and modular accessories enable fleets to adapt the mount to different tablet sizes, keyboards, or display setups without sacrificing stability or safety. This adaptability makes the Gamber-Johnson solution ideal for mixed fleets or evolving tech, allowing upgrades without a full equipment overhaul and supporting a broad spectrum of applications from dispatching to field-service data collection.

How to Install

  • Step 1: Inspect your vehicle’s mounting area (dash, console, or rail) to determine the most secure, accessible location for both the tablet and keyboard cradle. Confirm there is enough clearance for cable routing and for the folded keyboard when not in use.
  • Step 2: Gather the mounting hardware included with the Gamber-Johnson kit and prepare the mounting surface by cleaning and, if required, using the supplied adapters for your vehicle model.
  • Step 3: Attach the main base to the chosen surface using the recommended fasteners; tighten to manufacturer torque specifications to prevent looseness or movement under vibration.
  • Step 4: Connect the cradle and the keyboard assembly to the base, ensuring the swivel and telescope joints move freely and lock securely in the desired position. Route cables neatly to avoid interference with pedals, gear shifts, or airbags.
  • Step 5: Install your tablet into the cradle, attach the keyboard, and perform a full range of motion test—swiveling, telescoping, docking, and undocking—to confirm smooth operation and safe clearance for all in-vehicle activities.

Plato's dialogue about the physical world
Format: Paperback
The two biggest topics in the Timaeus are astronomy and the elements of bodies, which are constructed using triangles and the tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron, and cube. I would like to see a translation of the Timaeus that uses it as a way to introduce all the astronomy that appears in the dialogue. Introducing the astronomy does not mean just talking in words about spheres or the zodiac or the ecliptic, but actually explaining how these were used by astronomers. Cornford has much to say, but to someone who has not learned any Greek astronomy his commentary will be opaque and hard to use. I didn't know the astronomy well enough to readily understand Cornford's explanations. I plan to learn more classical Greek astronomy, perhaps using Evans' , and then read Waterfield's translation of the Timaeus . Before reading this you should have read the Republic and know some classical Greek natural philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy. Although Cornford's commentary makes the dialogue staccato, I am glad for it because I wouldn't otherwise have understood much of what Plato says. The Timaeus and the Parmenides are the two dialogues of Plato that one needs commentary to understand; the Parmenides demands the commentary because so much of what is happening depends on the original language, and the Timaeus demands the commentary because of all the things the reader is supposed to be familiar with. The following is a list of topics I kept while reading the dialogue: theory of Forms 27d-28a, 51a-52a; harmonics 35b-36b; time 37c-38e, 39b-e; vision 45b-46c, 67c-68d; space 52b; surfaces 53c; weight 62d-63e; sound 67a-67c; physiology 70c-79e, 80d-86a; antiperistasis 79e-80c.

Helpful, but Waterfield is better for an intro
Format: Paperback
This is basically a scholarly paragraph-by-paragraph commentary on the Timaeus. It's really good for what it is, but I don't recommend it as your first introduction to the Timaeus -- rather, I recommend Waterfield: http://www.amazon.com/Timaeus-Critias-Oxford-Worlds-Classics-ebook/dp/B006NTMD16 A problem with using Cornford as an introduction is that he comments on everything, and it's hard to figure out what the main themes are. I tried reading Cornford as an intro and gave it up, but once I'd read Waterfield I found Cornford extremely helpful both in elucidating passages further than Waterfield does, and in interpreting passages Waterfield doesn't cover. So if you're looking to learn about the Timaeus, I'd suggest Waterfield first and Cornford second (or Cornford alongside Waterfield).

Cornford's running commentary is arguably the best suited to fulfill this desire
Readers of any of Plato's works are bound to feel they might profit from various commentaries. His Timaeus, in particular, may be said to elicit such a hope because of number and intricacy of its details. Cornford's running commentary is arguably the best suited to fulfill this desire: it helps make clear the integrity of the dialogue as a whole and illumines the specific points along the way. Although this work is certainly dated, originally published in 1937, it is certainly one of the best full commentaries on the Timaeus.
