From the thousands of images documenting hundreds of towns, I discerned common themes that were evident in multiple towns across the country. I am featuring these themes in individual books.
This one is called ÒWelcome Home.Ó It contains images of the signs that the towns erect welcoming people at the entrance to the town. The signs thereby signal what to expect about the community that lies ahead. The welcome signs that I documented across the country are as varied as the towns themselves, some rather plain and utilitarian, and others more like a fancy public relations appeal. The signs may reflect the townÕs history, or perhaps something that is a source of pride.
