Crime writer sleuth Donald Langham is faced with the classic locked-room conundrum in this engaging historical mystery
July, 1955. Donald Langham has interrupted his romantic break in rural Suffolk with the delectable Maria Dupre to assist a fellow writer. Alastair Endicott has requested Langham's help in discovering what's happened to his father, Edward, who seems to have disappeared without trace from inside his locked study.

Before he vanished, the elder Endicott had been researching a book on the notorious Satanist Vivian Stafford. Could the proposed biography have something to do with his disappearance? Does local resident Stafford really possess supernatural powers, as some believe?

As Langham and Dupre question those around them, it becomes clear that there have been strange goings-on in the sleepy village of Humble Barton. But is the village really haunted - or does someone merely want it to look that way? With a further shocking discovery, the case takes a disturbing new twist.

Not working for me 100%
Still not sure about how this magnesium affects me. I have only been taking one tablet an hour or two before bedtime. Seems like sometimes I can’t go to sleep after taking it, charges up my brain. Other times I sleep but have crazy dreams. Maybe it works for some, but not others. I’ll try to finish the bottle, but the lack of sleep after taking the Magnesium L-Threonate makes me hesitant to continue some nights. That’s mainly the reason I purchased this brand to include the reviews.

very good
Format: Kindle
Another good addition to this publisher's collection. The book is well organized, flows well and is very readable. The main thing I have like about this series is that they don't just cover the "highlights," although they do a good job on those, but how they cover more of the daily lives of the people. I was surprised at exactly how hard the people's lives were by choice, not just men but woman as well. I can't imagine being drafted into the military at age 5 or 6 and staying there until you were thirty. And eating "black soup" a concoction made of pork, pigs' blood, onions, salt and vinegar. To paraphrase a quote, it's no wonder Spartans were prepared to die when all you eat was this soup! I was also surprised by the freedoms including education and land ownership of the woman of Sparta giving the era.....and the sexual freedom they had was more surprising. There is a lot more information of interest. This is a good book and most will enjoy reading it

This was a well written and entertaining overview of the Spartans. The information was well put together and easy to understand. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
