Dans  le livre d'aventures du Seigneur des Anneaux , l'ombre de Sauron est tombée sur la Terre du Milieu et l'Anneau Unique doit être détruit. Afin de mener à bien leur quête intimidante, les joueurs doivent travailler ensemble pour aider   les personnages chéris du Seigneur des Anneaux à voyager de la Comté aux feux du Mordor, tout en évitant l'Œil de Sauron.

Cette troisième entrée dans la ligne "livre d'aventures" de Ravensburger est divisée en huit "chapitres" qui sont expérimentés sur huit "pages" de jeux de société différentes. Chaque nouveau chapitre propose des énigmes et des défis que les joueurs doivent surmonter pour faire avancer l'histoire. Le jeu permet un jeu flexible pour les jeux familiaux en solo ou en coopération, afin que les joueurs puissent choisir leur style d'aventure, et chaque chapitre prend environ vingt minutes à jouer.
