The Akari Floor Lamp is a tribute to the unique craftsmanship of traditional Japanese lanterns, drawing inspiration from the designer’s visit to the fishing village of Gifu in Japan. There, Noguchi witnessed fishermen using bamboo-framed lanterns covered with fine paper to attract fish—an image that sparked the idea for his light sculptures.
In this design, the Akari Floor Lamp captures the essence of these traditional lanterns, combining wood and mulberry paper to create a lighting fixture that is both functional and sculptural.
