Totem KIN Solo On-Wall Speakers with KIN Sub 8 Bundle at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Totem KIN Solo and KIN Sub 8 Bundle is a complete 3.1 architectural home theater system from Totem Acoustic (Montreal, Canada), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. The bundle includes three KIN Solo on-wall speakers for left, centre, and right channel duty, plus one KIN Sub 8 powered subwoofer for deep bass reinforcement. Each KIN Solo is an ultra-slim passive on-wall speaker measuring just 3.5 inches deep and 27.5 inches wide, carrying dual 4-inch MHEX phenolic honeycomb woofers and a 1-inch titanium-infused soft dome tweeter across a frequency response of 57 Hz to 21 kHz at 90 dB sensitivity and 6 ohms nominal impedance. The KIN Sub 8 adds a 200-watt Class D amplifier driving an 8-inch reinforced fiberglass woofer in a slotted enclosure, extending system bass to 29 Hz. All mounting hardware, magnetic grilles, and self-adhesive isolation feet for all four components are included in the bundle.

KIN Solo: MHEX Woofer Architecture and Orientation-Independent Dispersion

The KIN Solo's dual 4-inch MHEX woofers are the performance foundation of this bundle's on-wall speakers. MHEX cone construction uses multiple layers of phenolic honeycomb and woven synthetics bonded into a single diaphragm with exceptional rigidity and low mass. The phenolic honeycomb core resists cone flex across the full power range, maintaining a pure, flat frequency response in the critical 100 Hz to 2.5 kHz midrange band where vocal intelligibility and musical timbre are most demanding. Cast aluminum frames add further stiffness and allow larger voice coils and spiders to be implemented compared to stamped metal frames, which contributes directly to the KIN Solo's 20 to 125-watt power handling and its formidable bass output for a 3.5-inch-deep enclosure. The 1-inch titanium-infused soft dome tweeter combines the characteristic smoothness of a soft dome material with the extended high-frequency speed that titanium reinforcement provides, delivering detailed, airy treble to 21 kHz. The KIN Solo's driver layout is symmetrical, meaning that its dispersion characteristics are identical in vertical and horizontal mounting positions. This allows the same speaker to function as a vertical left or right channel flanking the television, as a horizontal centre channel below the screen, or as a rear surround unit on a side wall, without any change in tonal balance or imaging behavior.

KIN Sub 8: 200W Class D and 29 Hz Bass Extension

The KIN Sub 8 is a compact powered subwoofer measuring 9.5 inches wide, 11.25 inches tall, and 11.5 inches deep, designed to slot into any room position without demanding dedicated subwoofer furniture or floor space. Its 8-inch reinforced fiberglass cone woofer uses high-tensile spun fiberglass strands bonded to a cellulose core, delivering exceptional cone rigidity for a material of this weight. An oversized vented ferrite magnet assembly drives the cone with considerable force while remaining thermally stable during extended high-output listening sessions, and a butyl rubber surround allows the large cone excursion needed to reach 29 Hz in-room from an enclosure of this size. The 200-watt Class D amplifier is engineered in tandem with the driver, with volume, phase, and variable crossover frequency controls on the rear panel for precise integration with the KIN Solo speakers and any listening room. The slotted cabinet design enhances low-frequency efficiency and extension beyond what the same driver in a sealed enclosure of comparable volume could achieve. RCA stereo and LFE inputs provide compatibility with the subwoofer output of the Totem KIN AMP and any standard AV receiver.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Totem KIN Solo and KIN Sub 8 Bundle?

The Totem KIN Solo and KIN Sub 8 Bundle is a complete 3.1 architectural home theater system from Totem Acoustic, Montreal, Canada. It includes three KIN Solo passive on-wall speakers for left, centre, and right channel duty, plus one KIN Sub 8 powered subwoofer. The KIN Solo measures 27.5 inches wide and just 3.5 inches deep, with dual 4-inch MHEX woofers and a 1-inch titanium-infused soft dome tweeter covering 57 Hz to 21 kHz. The KIN Sub 8 adds a 200-watt Class D amplifier and 8-inch reinforced fiberglass woofer extending system bass to 29 Hz in-room. All wall brackets, magnetic grilles, and isolation feet for all four components are included.

How does the Totem KIN Solo compare to the Sonos Era 300 or Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar system?

The Totem KIN Solo and KIN Sub 8 bundle is an audiophile-grade architectural speaker system designed for discrete installation alongside a flat panel television, positioned differently from consumer soundbar systems such as the Samsung HW-Q990D and wireless speaker systems like the Sonos Era 300. The Samsung HW-Q990D is an all-in-one soundbar package optimized for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object audio processing, with wireless surrounds but limited acoustic separation between channels. The Sonos Era 300 offers multi-room Wi-Fi streaming and spatial audio but functions as a standalone wireless speaker rather than a dedicated home theater front stage. The KIN Solo bundle uses discrete passive speakers for the LCR channels, delivering genuine left, centre, and right channel independence with Totem's proprietary MHEX woofer and phase-coherent imaging. Its passive design also makes it compatible with any AV receiver or integrated amplifier, giving the owner flexibility to upgrade amplification independently over time.

Can the Totem KIN Solo be mounted horizontally as a centre channel below the TV?

Yes, the KIN Solo's symmetrical driver layout produces identical tonal balance and dispersion in both vertical and horizontal mounting orientations. This makes it equally effective as a horizontal centre channel mounted directly below the television screen as it is in its vertical left and right channel positions. The 27.5-inch width is proportioned specifically for 55-inch and larger displays, allowing the centre channel KIN Solo to span the width of the television mount area without visual mismatch when installed horizontally.

What amplifier or AV receiver does the KIN Solo require?

The KIN Solo is a passive speaker requiring an external amplifier or AV receiver rated at 20 to 125 watts per channel at 6 ohms nominal impedance. The Totem KIN AMP is the designated stereo pairing for 2.1 configurations, with its 2 x 100-watt output and built-in subwoofer output feeding the KIN Sub 8 directly. For full 3.1 home theater applications, any AV receiver from Denon, Marantz, or Yamaha rated at 6 ohms with at least three amplified channels connects to the three KIN Solo speakers, and the receiver's LFE or subwoofer output feeds the KIN Sub 8 via RCA cable.

What is MHEX woofer technology in the KIN Solo?

MHEX is Totem Acoustic's proprietary cone construction technology used in the KIN Solo's dual 4-inch woofers. The cone is built from multiple layers of phenolic honeycomb and woven synthetic materials bonded into a single rigid diaphragm. Phenolic honeycomb provides an extremely high stiffness-to-mass ratio, meaning the cone resists flexing under dynamic loading and maintains a flat, accurate frequency response across the critical 100 Hz to 2.5 kHz midrange band. Cast aluminum frames surround each MHEX driver, resisting the resonances that stamped metal frames introduce, and enabling larger voice coils and spiders for higher power handling and deeper bass excursion from the KIN Solo's slim 3.5-inch enclosure.

Does the KIN Sub 8 have enough output for a home theater room?

The KIN Sub 8's 200-watt Class D amplifier and 8-inch reinforced fiberglass woofer reach 29 Hz in-room, which covers the full range of cinematic bass effects including LFE content in most Dolby and DTS-encoded soundtracks. It is best suited to small and medium-sized rooms up to approximately 350 to 400 square feet. For larger rooms or listeners who prefer very high subwoofer output levels, Totem's KIN Sub 10 with a 10-inch driver and higher amplifier power is available as an alternative within the KIN Series. The KIN Sub 8's variable crossover frequency, phase adjustment, and volume controls allow precise tuning for any room size and speaker combination.

Fun with a late blooming omega
Format: Kindle
I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline. I especially like how all the main characters are a bit older than the usual 20 somethings I tend to see in this kind of book. Having said that, I wish there were more descriptions of the places, as well as the food in the fancy restaurant. I enjoyed the cocktails at the club, so I missed that kind of detail when Gray took Madison on a dinner date. I also wish there had been more interaction between Lucas and Madison, and Lucas and Rian. It felt a bit lopsided, with a focus on Rian, Madison, and Gray. I wish it had been proofread - there are a lot of typos, but nothing too distracting.

Madison Deserved Better
Format: Kindle
Madison was a beta...except she wasn't any longer. She was a late presenting Omega. And she was struggling. She was tall and thin, not tiny and curvy. She was opinionated. She was everything an Omega was not. After suffering through her first heat, her friends took her to Ardor, a club where Omegas came to safely find Alphas. She's not expecting much but then she connects with a sexy beta. And when she meets his Alphas, they set her body on fire. Maybe, she's found her no-strings-attached heat pack. Maybe, she's found something more. I could not connect with the characters in this book, so their story never resonated with me. And there was no love story; there was sex. Grey made it clear from the beginning that he had a true love and it was his beta boy, Rian. He went so far as to reassure Rian “Say the word, I’ll never touch her again. Lucas can put the babies in her. I only need you, beta boy”. So, Madison was there for babies, no emotions needed. Nice. No, thank you. I want the Omega to be the center of their world, not an incubator. Lucas and Rian weren't any better. After her heat, they let her leave. Not one of them made her feel valued. No one gave her a reason to stay or even offered a cuddle. And the sex didn't even come across as mind-blowing. Madison deserved better.

Pretty Darn Good
Format: Kindle
So I’ve been on a omega kick and this definitely hit the spot. Madison was frustrating at times with how she acted towards Lucas, Gray, and Rian. It was like she said towards the end, she didn’t believe she deserved nice things. It would have been nice to hear from her best friends again. They kind of were there in the beginning and the gone except for mention of text messages received from them. I feel like her friends would have been great help in encouraging Madison to go with the pack and never give Brent another chance because he was toxic. I loved Rian. His personality was awesome. His humor. His ability to make Madison comfortable whenever she was feeling overwhelmed. And the fact he fell for her and she fell for him first. They are cute together. I do feel like Lucas was the odd man out though. Like Lucas didn’t develop as much of a relationship with Madison. I would have really liked to see more development in the relationship between them. It was also the same with him and Rian. There is really no relationship displayed. Most of the relationship being displayed is between Rian and Gray. Nevertheless, I loved reading about the dynamic that came to fruition during the entirety of this story. Madison finally got her happiness. And Brent finally got punched in the face. Everyone got exactly what they deserve.
