Reproduction of Sea Life V by Sara Zieve Miller
Sara Zieve Miller — "Sea Life V" is a compelling example of contemporary watercolor illustration that bridges the gap between scientific naturalism and poetic abstraction. The work aligns with a modern tradition of botanical and zoological art, yet departs from strict realism through its delicate application of wash and minimal line work, emphasizing form and atmosphere over anatomical precision. Compositionally, the piece is governed by a centered minimalism, with the whale occupying the horizontal axis and vast negative space suggesting the infinite expanse of the ocean. This use of asymmetrical balance and negative space creates a sense of calm and contemplation, drawing the viewer into a meditative space. The color palette—dominated by soft aqua and pale blue hues—evokes the cool, diffuse light of underwater environments, while the subtle gradations in value suggest the depth and movement of water. The technique, likely employing translucent watercolor on paper, allows for a luminous quality that is both delicate and evocative. Historically, this approach resonates with early 20th-century natural history illustrations, yet the emphasis on mood and aesthetic over scientific documentation situates it within a broader contemporary movement of decorative, nature-inspired art. The work’s interpretive significance lies in its ability to convey the quiet majesty of marine life through a restrained visual language, transforming a biological subject into a meditative symbol of serenity and the vastness of the natural world. For more art by Sara Zieve Miller click here.

The best devotional ever!
Format: Paperback
I have read many devotionals through the years in conjunction with the Bible. This one is the best of all of them.
I first heard of Lilias Trotter when I bought my granddaughter the children's book about her: Lily: The Girl Who Could See by Sally Oxley, Tim Ladwig with Miriam Huffman Rockness. While waiting for it to arrive, I watched the movie/documentary about Lilias Trotter's life Many Beautiful Things(2015)(You can view it free on YouTube). Miriam Huffman Rockness is integral to the film and all the research on the late artist and missionary's life. The Lord spoke an urgency and determination to Miriam's heart in preserving the legacy of Lilias Trotter. Without Mrs. Rockness, I believe Lilias Trotter's art, journals, and mission work would have lingered and disappeared into relative obscurity. God made Lilias Trotter special and she lived her life for His glory and service. After watching the film, I downloaded Lilias Trotter's Parables of the Cross on Kindle. I loved it, but the kindle version didn't contain the artwork she'd completed to go with this book. Her art and her words go hand-in-hand. It left me wanting something with both. I decided to order this devotional.
This is a triple blessing! It has excerpts from Lilias' journals and writings plus her artwork at the start of each devotional plus a daily devotional inspired by these. Miriam Huffman Rockness brings application to today and ties it to her own life of service. I know Lilias and Miriam will have great talks in eternity. Thank goodness we still have Miriam.
I will be reading more of the books the Lilias Trotter Legacy group makes available.

Only Excerpts and Art in Book From Lilias Trotter
Format: Paperback
Lilias Trotter is one of my favorite authors. It is my own fault that I didn't read the title careful enough to realize that it's the authors own personal thoughts about things Lilias said or painted that is the main content of the book. She's a good writer and I appreciate her personal reflections, but it's not what I assumed. The printing is well done and it's always a gift to see Lilias artwork

Beautiful gift book.
Format: Paperback
The quotes stimulate me to journal my own thoughts. I bought one for myself and one for a friend. It would make a nice pairing with her biography, “Until the Day Breaks”.

Beautiful!
Format: Paperback
I have just discovered Lilias Trotter and her writings and paintings. Beautiful watercolors evoking all aspects of her life especially spent in Africa are on each page with a snippet of a quote from her writings. Even without journaling, it's pleasure to page through admiring her wonderful talent and Godly perspective.
